Scotiabank Joins Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 as Lead Banking Sponsor

News

Scotiabank’s partnership will support the Veteran Employment Symposium through ScotiaRISE

VANCOUVER, BC – September 10, 2024 – Today, the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, presented by ATCO and Boeing, announced Scotiabank as Lead Banking Sponsor of the Games, taking place next February 8-16, 2025. The partnership reflects Scotiabank’s commitment and leadership in supporting Serving Members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, their families and the Military Community with a focus on Veteran transition and employment.

As Lead Banking Sponsor and through its signature program ScotiaRISE, Scotiabank will be a proud supporter of the Veteran Employment Symposium during the Games. The international forum aims to build a Veteran Ready Canada by catalyzing corporate and community commitment to Veteran hiring, training and retention. Hosted in cooperation with True Patriot Love Foundation and other stakeholders and partners, the Symposium will bring together corporate and community leaders from Canada, Government Partners, Invictus Nations, and Veterans. ScotiaRISE is Scotiabank’s 10-year, $500 million commitment to promote economic resilience by funding programs that remove barriers to employment and career advancement.

Our partnership with the Invictus Games aligns to Scotiabank’s long history of positively contributing to the communities in which we live and work, and reflects our deep appreciation for Veterans’ service and the skills they have gained through their military careers,” said Scott Thomson, President & CEO, Scotiabank. “As the Lead Banking Partner for the Invictus Games, and through programs supported by ScotiaRISE, Scotiabank is proud to help Veterans further succeed by removing hurdles to employment, navigating career transitions, and engaging companies and communities that are helping Veterans to achieve their fullest present and future potential.”

Scotiabank is a recognized military-friendly employer. The Bank leverages tools and resources to help Veterans bridge to civilian employment and tailors workplace policies to reflect the unique needs of Veterans, such as an upcoming enhanced Leave Policy for Reservists.

Military-to-Civilian transition is a complex process that requires thoughtful consideration of several key facets including the needs of family, re-defining purpose and, if desired, finding a suitable career path for civilian employment. On average, about 8,500 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members release from service every year. About a third of releasing CAF members indicate they have difficulty transitioning to civilian life, and the effects of transition may be amplified for those who are released due to service-related injury.

“Scotiabank understands the unique challenges facing Veterans, especially wounded, injured, or sick (WIS) Veterans, as they attempt to transition out of service and into civilian life, and we’re so pleased to welcome them to our team,” said Scott Moore, CEO, Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. “We’re proud to collaborate to deliver these Games and other targeted legacy programs to support our Veterans and service members at every stage of their recovery.”

Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 is also dedicated to offering opportunities before and during the Games that build a connection across community including Veteran volunteerism opportunities, mentorship and coaching, and internships. Veteran volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside members of the sports presentation team and partner with them to be mentored and coached throughout the Games, learning new skills that will support their career pursuit post-Games.

Post-Games, the legacy of the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will be carried forward by True Patriot Love Foundation with an enduring commitment to Veteran transition through the Veteran Hub (www.VeteranHub.ca) and partnerships for the development and sharing of tools, resources and best practices to support Veteran hiring, training and retention.

This collaboration aims to support Veterans’ transition into employment and foster an increased military cultural awareness for companies, and a stronger platform for Veterans to exhibit their skills and leadership talent as a part of the workforce. Through the inspiration of the Games and legacy programs, we will also be witness to the resilience and inspiration of Veterans.
