The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, celebrates the unconquered human spirit of military service members and Veterans who are wounded, injured, or sick. From February 8-16, 2025, over 500 of these heroes will travel from up to 25 different nations to Vancouver and Whistler for the first-ever Winter hybrid Games. These service members will compete in 11 different sports to support their journey of recovery with their family and friends cheering them on from the sidelines.
‘Invictus’ means unconquered and embodies the fighting spirit of the participants, as well as their motivation to move on with their lives, and to not let themselves be defined by their struggle.
Having the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 in our country presents an ideal opportunity to teach students resiliency, respect, and resourcefulness. These 1-5 day (depending on the time you want to dedicate) lesson plans will inspire students and spark meaningful dialogue around the themes of inclusivity and resilience.
This 7th edition of the Games will be held on the traditional territories of the Lil̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 are working closely with the Nations to ensure they respond to Canada’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and to ensure Indigenous protocols are respected in all aspects of the Games.
Lessons can be taught as a mini-unit or used as stand-alone activities sprinkled over a period of time. These downloadable resources are available in English and French (with some English only videos & articles), and are divided into Elementary School, Intermediate/Middle School, and High School. You can adapt activities for your grade level and use as independent/partner work for upper grades. Complete as a class for lower grades within your academic category.
Activities and ideas will include:
- Classroom Resources – things teachers can do IN school (focus on learning about the students)
- Community Connections Opportunities – things you can do OUT of school (these focus on students connecting with people and places in the community)
